Recently, there has been a need to develop technologies to respond to reinforcement regulations for air pollutants emissions from ships, and demand for decarbonization following the establishment of IMO’s GHG reduction strategy.
Typical green-ship engine equipment technologies include engine technology using zero-carbon fuel and exhaust emission abatement technology. And demonstration-based research for ship application of related technologies and development of test/certification systems for objective evaluation of development technologies are required.
Korean Register provides technical services and develop rules related 1) development and performance evaluation of green-ship engine technologies, 2) development and performance evaluation of exhaust emission abatement technologies, 3) Development of testing/certification system for green-ship engines and equipment by Greenship Test and Certification Center.
  • Development and performance evaluation of Green-ship engine technologies
    Technologies that can respond to demands of the times such as decarbonization are application of newly development fuel like carbon neutral fuel and development of eco-friendly fuelled engines.
    In order to support the development and performance evaluation of green-ship engine and equipment technology to related industries, Korean Register provides technical services related to application of new marine fuel, low/zero carbon-fuelled engine technologies by using analysis of combustion characteristics and emission characteristics.
  • Development and performance evaluation of exhaust emission abatement technologies
    Various exhaust emission abatement technologies has been developed according to related air pollutants, and are applied to ships in accordance with procedures such as development, demonstration, and approval. Korean Register provides full-cycle R&D from basic test of prototypes for applicability evaluation in the development stage to optimizing the performance of product in the demonstration stage.
  • Development of testing/certification system for green-ship engines and equipment
    In order to secure reliability of performance evaluation results of green-ship engines and related equipment, it is necessary to establish a test/certification system by analyzing the validity of the test environment and procedures. In order to ensure the validity of the test/certification evaluation results, Korean Register works to research and development on standard procedures/guidelines for testing/certification of green-ship engines and related equipment.
  • Infrastructure of testing/certification assessment for green-ship engines and equipment
    Korean Register provides technical services according to development, testing and certification of green-ship engines and related equipment through engine test bed infrastructure of Green-ship Test and Certification Center.
